Well, the 25th is supposed to be the silver anniversary as for the bike, chrome is close enough! Do you two have ride bells? You could exchange silver ride bells. Remember, you can't give yourself a ride bell, they are supposed to come from another…

Robin, I am sure the 650 will do fine. You know, Larry Walther could probably give you some good advice and info on how well the 650 will do on a long trip and hot weather. He had his for a long time and did all kinds of rides. Also, Congratulations…

I have never ridden to Sturgis on the bike but have been there a couple of times driving cross country in the car. It can get very hot at that time of the year. You would want to be sure your bike is ready for hot weather riding. There are all kinds…

I know It has been a while since the last post on this topic but as I am watching another 6+ inches of snow hit the ground, it is a good reminder of the comaraderie of the bikers signified by 'the wave'. I miss that and all that Tim expressed is so…

Happy New Year, 2010 to all. There will not be a day for riding in this part of Idaho! It has been snowing since mid-day yesterday and is expected to continue until later this afternoon! It is beautiful . . . . . . for skiing, sliding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing but NOT motorcycle riding!! At least 10+ inches! God bless!

HCMR

I just returned from the 10th annual HCMR in Baker City, OR! What a great experience given this was probably one of the most wet events in HCMR history. Many of the planned events went off on schedule in spite of the wet weather conditions. Special thanks to the community, Mr Peacock at BHS, the police department and all the vendors that made this all happen! I will be signing up for this event for next year!! I hope to see more MMP members at the event! I will post some pictures later!

Sportster 1200 Custom

I was asked by a friend to drive her new, 2008 Sportster 1200 Custom from Boise to McCall as she is not licensed. I was glad to oblige since I had once considered a 1200 Custom as my bike of choice and affordability. The bike weighs in at about 560+ pounds so is not a light weight anymore (older 1200's used to be below 500 lbs). The bike comes stock with custom seat, wire wheel up front, 5 speed transmission, forward controls (a must on any bike in my opinion), a 150/80 rear tire, self-cancellin… Continue

Good for Idaho! Snow in Florida might suck, but I've been to Utah and Idaho, and know what's important and what's not. LOL!

The guy (Woody) in Florida has a 100% favorable rating in eBay, and that can be tough to do. But he has achieved it, as a seller and as a buyer, so he does work hard to make sure the people he deals with are treated well. I'm adding a link to his eBay 'store", and if you go there, samples of his seats on different bikes should be shown along the left-side of the page (in Firefox ~ Internet Explorer might display differently).

http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/pillowtopseatcompany?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1181

A link is right here.

You might have to do a copy/paste into your address bar - I'll try to hyperlink it, but sometimes that doesn't work ~ grin. Hope this helps.

The Patriot Guard in our area is going into a 24/7 welcome home program - started last Sunday, but I left to teach a software class in Chicago on Sunday and just got back, so today will be my first participation effort. What we plan to do is have someone at the airport (Moline International, in Moline, Illinois) at all times it is open, through December 24th. We will stand a flag line at the point that passengers first enter the "public" part of the terminal, and shake hands, hug, or just say "Thank you" to anyone who is getting on - or off - a flight into or out of MLI. This will be the 3rd annual "mission" of this type, but our first effort to go 24/7.

Talk more later - let me know if the link to "Woody's" site doesn't come through for you.

Hi Mike! That big storm a week or ten days ago was a one-time thing (so far). Tied up traffic in the Iowa area for a day or so, but within 2 days was under control nearly everywhere. The farther West you lived in Iowa, the harder you got hit, ranging from 18" in Western regions, to ourselves with just 8". We were able to clear streets and sidewalks one time, and there was no appreciable additional accumulation, so it was just that one time.

Right now our temps are "zero" and below, but later today and for the next 4-5 days it is supposed to warm up into the 20s and 30s, so that's a nice thought. ;^)

I really do empathize with the business people who are struggling with the lack of snow for their skiing trade. It would be the equivalent to this area having a drought, and those of us who grew up on the farm, or who are still reliant on crops or crop-related income, can certainly "feel that pain".

I ordered a new set of seats for the V Star, Mike. They should be here this week sometime. The stock seat setup for the V-1100 (same as the 1300 and larger engine machines?) is okay, but for all day or day-after-day long distance riding, it leaves you with a case of "iron-butt".

There is a gentleman in Florida who starts with the stock seat base (for a perfect fit); he then custom-builds the cushion and cover for you, using memory-foam layers, and other cushioning materials, and covers it with leather (on request) or more commonly, one of the synthetics like Naugahyde, for good rain repelling attributes.

His specialty/favorite is the "pillow" style, using either buttons or stitching to create the deep pillow effect. It seemed too inexpensive not to give a try. He charges $250 for both seats (rider and pillion), and if you send him your original seat, he will refund $50 of that price. I was about to put down $700 for "Ultimate" (mfr) seats, and decided to give this guy a chance, and perhaps save myself $400-500 in the bargain.

Good to hear from ya! Been having such a great year that I just didn't have time much to get back on the site. We spent the last weekend in Morris, Il. Pretty darn cold and it was wet to boot! But we enjoyed the bikes and just being togehter. Like a couple of kids we were!! I;ve heard that Star cut back production, but not aobut dropping. OMG i still have to get my 950 some day!

Tidioute is an indian (Seneca) name meaning "Overlook". The Alleghany River runs through ou valley. It is quite beautiful. Now to say it: Titty-yute. I know that this sounds dirty but it really isn't.
Hey glad to meet you. Take care and ride safe!!
