My brother-in-law has our route all planned out and I guess we are taking 80 to 50 into San Francisco and then back home up through Oregon, Idaho etc. on I-90. Getting anxious and nervous! I guess I have been reading too much information.

Wendy & Fred, Just got back from Colorado and would recommend US Rt.36, but I would take I-74 to I-72 and take 36 from there into Colo. Never saw a road as straight as this and you can run 75 - 80 with no problem. Make sure you have plenty of gas be…

Hi Wendy/Fred, I'm also taking Highway 50 on my road trip this year. I'll be starting from Ely, NV and going all the way to Kentucky, then dropping down into Tennessee, S on Natchez Trace parkway, then up through TX and home to WA state.
You asked about the Badlands. I've been there a few times, it's a loop drive, not sure how many miles, alot of people visit, it's not too desolate. They have one or two visitor centers also. It's well worth seeing, it's kind of like being on another planet in places, such a unique landscape. And of course if you visit the Badlands, you've gotta be a total tourist and go to Wall Drug for some cheesy souveniers.

Hi Wendy and Fred, please let me know which route you'll be going and I may be able to make some good suggestions for things to see. If you haven't already seen the popular national parks, there are a few you should definitely see, like Carlsbad Caverns, Arches, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Grand Canyon of course (I scored a free helicopter ride over the canyon when I went, beat the pilot at pool!) Death Valley should be experienced at least once. There are so many to see, and lots of great towns along the way. I hardly ever travel the interstates, and because of that I see so much more and meet so many nice people, mostly in diners and rest areas!
