Robin, I think He answered your request for decent weather for us. It is 44 degrees today with bright sunshine and more of the same for tomorrow followed by at least 5 days of temps above forty with some rain, not snow! And today is Palm Sunday.
Thanks for the welcome. How far are ya'll from W. KY? I think I'm going to stick to the 650 for a while. I'm kinda new to all of this...even though I Love it!!! Maybe one day I'll get the guts to move up to something more power, LOL.
Robin, Thanks for the request for a blessing! It would be nice especially when we keep getting just little samples of what Spring should be. I am sure He will make it all happen in time. I am just anxious with that new bike sitting there and only 350 miles on the odometer!
hello robin, thanks for the welcome. i was in your part of the country a couple weeks ago ridin the the river north from hannibal mo. back to waterloo. can't wait for the trees to get there color back. that will be a return trip for sure. thanks again al.
Robin, Never been one but I would start with a reminder of the rules of the road for an organized ride, spacing, signals, traffic rules observed, and have fun!
Robin, Congratulations are in order for your new ID, 'Road Captain'. That is great. Keep on riding and praying. Damn, it is supposed to snow here, again! We just got another 6+ inches Sunday and supposed to get some more over the next 8 days. Oh how I want winter to go away. Palm Sunday is next Sunday and Easter the following. I don't think the Easter Bunny will be able to hide any eggs around here. Enjoy the ride.
Hi Robin,
I'm sorry to hear about your husband's layoff. That problem is happening a lot around here. I hope he finds something soon.
I finally got to see the 950. It looks great. I would like to see one dressed out though. Have you test drove a Kawasaki Nomad? My buddy rides an '01 Nomad 1500. It runs and rides great. It's a lot smoother ride than my 1100.
I can imagine what Jay's bike sounds like without the baffles. That ain't no small engine, Lady! LOL! I'm looking forward to April when I plan to come down for a burger (Moonshine Run), and hope we can meet then. Maybe meet in Effingham early and go into Moonshine from there?
Robin, I want to let you know you were an inspiration for me taking my first ride today. I braved the slush the last 30 feet of the driveway and had a great 20 mile ride, in the sun, at 50+ degrees. As for the 950, from what I have read, your assesment is right on the money. The only thing I would correct Larry on is that the 1100 is still air cooled but the 1300 is liquid cooled. I still love the 1300 for the lower stance and longer wheel base than my Sabre 1100. I remember trying to choose between the Sabre and the V-Star 1100. I guess it was the torque and immediate response of the Sabre. But, that was nine years ago and now the whole Shadow 1100 series of Honda is gone where the V-Star 1100 is still a strong seller. So, are you going to replace the 650 in favor of the 950? Keep us posted!
Hi Robin,
Thanks for the welcome. I am glad to have found a site with others that share my passion.
I don't enjoy riding in the cold so much however.
I like the look of the Classic like your 650.
My custom has a few extras to add a little more power.
Cobra 2 into 1 exhaust, Maxair kit, and a Dynatek Dyna 3000 ignition module. I will install Nology coils soon.
My bike runs great now. Plenty of power. Great acceleration.
I installed a heavier rear coil spring last summer. Rides great with a heavier load. A little stiffer ride without the extra weight.
All-in-all I love my bike.
We rode 1700 miles in a week last summer. Great ride although I had two problems. First one of my carb floats stuck open. Fixed on road. Replaced when got back home. Second problem was a 3" @!!!&*!@ nail that found my back tire.
I will be changing my fenders over to the Classic style soon. I have Classic forks coming this Wednesday.
I haven't ridden the 950. Did you test one yet?
Yep it sure was windy. Until late afternoon, that is. I rode North and East for several hours in the early afternoon, the direction chosen to keep the wind to my back. That put me about 50 - 60 miles from home (I stopped for coffee and conversation several times along the way, wherever I saw a hometown coffee shop or a lonely-looking Caseys - grin).
By the time it was time to head for the shed, the wind had gone way down, so the return trip was pretty nice, too. GREAT day, topped off with a stop at a local tavern that has a year-round "Thursday Bike Night" with a DJ, $1.75 bottles of beer, and games all night. Stay for two beverages, then headed home happy.
Hi Robin!
I've heard of quite a few people who chose to do their own mods on stock pipes. I thought about it, but ultimately decided not to because I was worried that releasing the back-pressure on the engine was going to require me to have the carb-jets changed anyway, so I did the whole thing - purchase and installation - through my dealer.
Best of luck with the modifications - let me know if it helped or hurt performance, because that would be my only concern. Have a great day!!
Is there a website thehungryrider.com ?
sorry for the long replay. I had this site, but had let it go do to money problems. I look back it now and I should have payed the $9.00......
I now! We're trying to get it back, Let you know when I do. Thanks for asking.
I'll send some pics of my bike on Monday, pre Mods. I have a sidecar for it too that has been a project for a year or so. It needs a little more work before it goes on the road.
Not the fastest bikes on the road. But it has that retro, vintage look. Some of the owners turn them into tribute Indian look alikes.

Yep, I think I'll do that! Nothing like a good burger!
